It’s been more than four months since we last updated you on the status of Cinnamon Bay. It’s one of the top questions we have here at News of St. John, so we figured we were due for an update.
Will Cinnamon Bay Campground Re-Open Soon?
For starters, the campground is not scheduled to reopen anytime soon. But there is work being done there, so that’s great. When it was announced in May that Tom Secunda, a part-time St. John resident, purchased the campground contract, we were told that it wasn’t expected to reopen until the 2020-2021 season. And it looks like that’s still the case.
As we saw Sunday, crews are still in the process of installing more than 10,000 feet of pipe for water and sewer. Once that is completed, the plan is to work on the bathhouses and the main building, and then the actual campsites. So there is still a lot to do, but there is also a lot of progress happening.
What Does Cinnamon Bay Campground Look Like Now?
Rather than tell you about Cinnamon Bay, we prefer to show you. Here are several pictures we took Sunday plus a nice little video from the beach. Enjoy!

Is The beautiful beach at Cinnamon available to use ? We realize there
are no facilities. Would still like to spend a day there!!! Coming down
late January, can’t wait!!!
When we were there in mid-November, we walked down to the beach & spent some time there. No facilities, but the beach was virtually deserted & it was very nice. Enjoy!
Its sad to see that what was once there is gone. I ❤️ Cinnamon Bay.
I hope the progress continues .
Thank you so much for keeping people informed of whats happening there . Its such a beautiful beach and i loved staying in the cottages. I hope
It opens soon. I used to stay there
In December every year. The outdoor showers were awesome,
The cottages were so comfortable,
And the restaurant had great dinners and the small market was accommodating. It was a little
village of its own as close to nature as you could get on this beautiful Island. Please keep the updates coming.
Thanks for posting this Jen. It already looks a lot better than it did last April when we were there. We started at Cinammon in the 80’s when my kids were little so it is a special place for us.
Is the project takinf volunteers?
Is the project taking volunteer help, I have experience!
Thank you for the up date and pictures. I had been going almost once a year since 1986 and this has been very hard to wait and wait and wait…. So when I say thank you I mean THANK YOU SOOOOOOOO MUCH FOR THE PICTURES ETC. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nunca conoci un lugar como este. Un paraiso y espero que la vida me de la oportunidad de volver al Cinnamon Bay Campground y que podamos difrutarlo como cuando estuve. quisiera siempre noticias del avance de las obras GRACIAS
We were at Cinnamon Bay in 2007. For whatever reason never made it back. It’s the most fabulous place. When is it opening?
