Happy days are here again according to New York magazine.
In an article about winter beach rental getaway spots, St. John gets a lot of positive comments.
"'Sleepy' used to be the choice adjective for St. John," the magazine said, but the new Fatty Crab restaurant (coincidentally it also has several outlets in New York) and several new hotels/guest houses have produced what the magazine called "a Montauk-like boom."
Kudos go to the island's 7,000 acre park, snorkel rentals at Low Key Watersports, Hawksnest (avoid crowded Trunk) and the Grouper Reuben at Miss Lucy's.
The value of a New York connection again paid off for Fatty and its owner Zak Pelaccio over the weekend.
The New York outpost's "Love City" drink was named a hot new Caribbean concoction by The New York Times. Made from gin/vodka, cardamom, lemon, cucumber and basil, Pelaccio suggested you could get the $10 beverage "to go", head for the beach, and "wade into the ocean while drinking it."
A grouper reuben? That’s sounds amazing. Definitely headed to Miss Lucy’s next time I’m down.
Coral Bay was featured in the New York Times Travel Section on Sunday 13 November in an article about finding Caribbean getaways that aren’t so crowded!
