Governor Bryan Loosens Restaurant and Beach Restrictions

Governor Bryan Loosens Restaurant and Beach Restrictions 1

Happy Hump Day! And, we are halfway through the week!  How’s everyone doing out there?  Things seem to have calmed down a WEE bit on St. John this past week.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s still super busy, but it doesn’t feel like we are bursting at the seams anymore.  And, seemingly, the government imposed mandates in regards to COVID-19 have remained effective through the Winter and Spring Break booms.  On Monday, Governor Bryan announced a few more small steps to loosen some of the current COVID restrictions in light of positive cases remaining low and vaccination distribution remaining high in the USVI.

Sahara Dust- The Pros and The Cons

Sahara Dust- The Pros and The Cons 2

Good Morning!  If you’re on island right now, you may have noticed the brackish haze on the horizon, as well as some pretty unworldly sunsets, over the past week.  To the naked eye, it seems that the air quality is just a bit poor, dulling the vibrant greens and blues we are accustomed to here in the VI.  Well, it IS poor air quality, to be fair. But its also a crazy natural phenomenon that has always blown my mind, ever since I moved to St. John.

WIN Two Tickets to Paradise- Island Green Talks Reef Safe Sunscreen

WIN Two Tickets to Paradise- Island Green Talks Reef Safe Sunscreen 4

Over the past few weeks, we have been working with Island Green to promote their “Two Tickets to Paradise” fundraiser.  By buying a raffle ticket (or ten!), you not only get the opportunity to win an ALL-INCLUSIVE trip to St. John, but you are also supporting a super important organization on island.

Did you know that non-reef safe sunscreen is actually illegal in the USVI?  Our coral reefs here are in trouble and the increased amount of traffic, both on boats and beaches, this year hasn’t been helpful to their recovery.  But, by using non-toxic sun protection, you can help to preserve our marine life.  And Island Green has been at the forefront of the initiatives to protect that precious underwater world that we all enjoy so much!

I have tried my hardest to keep you all up to date on travel trends, advisories, on island pointers and increases in traffic on St. John over the past few months.  Starting in about February, it started to BOOM here with little reprieve from tourism traffic since then.  And, it does not look like its going to let up any time soon.  I read two very interesting articles this morning and wanted to share a bit of the information with you about what to expect here on St. John in the coming months.

Natural Phenomenons on St. John: Waterspout to the East, Sahara Dust to the West 7

Yesterday afternoon, St. John received visits from two different natural phenomenons…Both of which are impressive feats of nature in my book!  The west side of the island sat under stagnant, hazy air, while the east end received a bit of rain and quite a show from Mother Nature!
