Ocean Week is Around the Corner!

Ocean Week is Around the Corner! 1

Good Morning all!  And a Happy Wednesday to you.  I want to ask you an important question to start this out….Why do you visit St. John?  Why do you love it?  Chances are that somewhere in that LONG list of reasons why this place is so near and dear to our hearts is…You guessed it:  The Ocean.  Once I moved to St. John, I knew immediately that I could never live away from the water again.  It calls us home.  It nourishes our bodies, minds and spirits.  It is a true reset button from the hustle and bustle of life.  Joy is an understatement.  But, when is the last time that we gave back to this thing that gives us happiness and brings us to life?  Well, if you can’t remember the last time that you did, next week is a perfect way to celebrate the sea and give some love back!

Island Update: More Openings, Air Quality, Road Work and Travel Tips 2

Good Morning Everyone!  Off season is winding down here on St. John as more and more of our favorite establishments re-open their doors and the perpetual hurricane season holding of the breath slowly starts to loosen its grasp.  But, the down time for residents and the peak time for storms isn’t over quite yet, even though business has started to pick up in spurts.  Restaurants have experienced some unexpected busy evenings due to last minute bookings and the boats are starting to refill the bays as many make their way back home, expectant and enthusiastic about another busy season.  But, there is still work to be done on St. John to get ready for this 2021-2022 season.

Caribbean Cocktails at Home: The Daiquiri

Caribbean Cocktails at Home: The Daiquiri 8

If you can honestly say you have never ordered a Daiquiri…Well, hats off to you.  The sweeter than candy frozen cocktail with artificial fruit flavors is generally topped with Reddi-Whip and served at beachfront and on-board establishments around the world.  And, it may have been my go to in earlier years of tropical vacations.

Caribbean Cocktails at Home: The Daiquiri 9

But, this popular cocktail is actually so far from what a traditional Daiquiri is.  It has evolved over the past hundred years or so into a shriveled and tourism friendlier version of itself.  Although popular with all ages and levels of alcohol consumption, the present day daquiri mocks the sophistication of the classic cocktail of the same name.

Many times in the past, I have shared with you videos and photos and even web cams of St. John in order to give you a little virtual vacation and way to transport yourself to our happy place.  Well, today I want to share with you a way to virtually transport yourself to the historic Annaberg Plantation.  In 2015, Virgin Islands National Park and Friends of Virgin Islands National Park teamed up with CyArk, “a non profit organization founded in 2003 to digitally record, archive and share the world’s most significant cultural heritage and ensure that these places continue to inspire wonder and curiosity for decades to come.”
