8 Tuff Miles, the easy way

As many as 1,500 people are expected to move past the starting line Saturday morning at 7:15 a.m. for the 17th annual 8 Tuff Miles road race on St. John.

If you'll be among the runners, great.  Good luck.  Last year’s winner, Derrick Butler, is likely to be at the head of this year's race starting line, as will be local favorite, and past multi-time winner, Jeremy Zuber.

If you'd rather see the course from your comfortable chair, race founder Peter Alter put together a brief Google Earth tour of the route.

Last year, Butler finished the race in 46 minutes 22 seconds, and most run news make the 8.375 mile run from Cruz Bay to Coral Bay in less than 90 minutes.  Folks who don’t take the race hullabaloo too seriously, may walk the route in three or four hours.  It really doesn’t matter 🙂

When the race is over, the parties start.  An Awards ceremony is set for 4 p.m. Saturday at Mongoose Junction.  Prizes, music, and a pig roast are planned.

And Sunday,  the  St. John Cancer Fund will host a benefit “Recovery Party” at Gibney’s/Hawksnest Bay Beach.
