Over the weekend, there was a 24 hour window, from 6pm Saturday to 6 pm Sunday, when off-islanders could again sign up for the 17th annual 8 Tuff Miles Race which will BE run next month.
“There have been many requests from people residing outside St. Thomas and St. John for the opportunity to participate in the event,” said a message on the race’s Facebook page.
Registration is now closed, “in order to focus on the details of the event itself and have the best race day ever,” say the organizers.
The race starts at 7:15 a.m. on Feb. 23rd. A record turnout of as many as 1,500 competitors is expected.
There will be nearly 90 awards to ‘winners,’ in dozens and dozens of age groups. The ribbons and recognitions. and ‘a few random door prizes’, will be made at the 9th Mile Award Ceremony at 4 p.m. It will also feature appetizers of the pig roast persuasion, St. John Brewers beverages, and live music by Matt Still. One lucky competitor, who completes the race in less than three hours, will also win a $1,000 shopping spree at Mongoose Junction.
