Beach Bar Progress!

Well folks, we finally saw some progress over at The Beach Bar Thursday… A concrete pour! I never thought I’d get so excited about concrete, but I am!

Here’s a quick catch up for our newer readers…

The Beach Bar is an amazing beachfront bar in Cruz Bay. Like many places, it was damaged during Hurricane Irma. For a bit, the owners were able to offer happy hour parties on the beach, but that ended several months back for reasons out of their control.

The owners, Reed and Sherry, purchased The Beach Bar in late 2016. They weren’t even open a year when the hurricanes rolled through. They purchased the business, but have a lease for the actual space including the beach. (The area up to the high tide water line is public. The area from the high tide water line to the building is the leased beach space.) The building owner is the person overseeing construction, not Reed and Sherry. So the fact that it’s not open is completely out of their hands. I can tell you that they want that bar open just as much as the rest of us.

The building’s owner has decided to rebuild stronger, which I think is obviously smart. He also wants a concrete roof over the bar for other reasons. This had led to soil samples and a host of other requirements. This is one reason of many as to why the bar has yet to reopen.

But let’s focus on the positive! We finally saw some progress on Thursday … woohoo!

The concrete floor was poured. Once that cures, they can start to build the forms for the roof. Hopefully that doesn’t take too long. The kitchen has already been worked on, so then we just need the bar to be built. Dare I say it may reopen by the end of the year?? Fingers crossed!!

You know we will keep you all posted on this. In the meantime, have a wonderful day everyone!

  1. Was so hoping Beach Bar would be open in mid-November. This will be our third year there, without one of our favorites. Any chance Joe’s Rum Hut will be open soon?

As a business owner, it would be interesting to know how businesses have stayed operating since the storm.
