Popular Cruz Bay Spot Featured in Coastal Living

longboard outside street view

Now this is kinda cool – The Longboard, one of Cruz Bay’s newest restaurants and watering holes, was just featured in Coastal Living magazine. Not too shabby!

For those of you not familiar with The Longboard, it opened earlier this year in the former Joe’s Diner location right underneath Cafe Roma. It describes itself as being a “coastal cantina” and has great food and even better hand-crafted cocktails. Here’s what Coastal Living had to say about it yesterday…

Caribbean Crush: Cocktails and Delicious Bites at The Longboard in St. John, USVI – By Tracey Minken

While I’m packing my suitcase for a nine-day trip to British Columbia’s Gulf Islands and Vancouver, I’m Caribbean crushing in a big way on a new spot for fresh seafood and fresher cocktails, in one of my favorite spots in the US Virgin Islands: St. John. Because if it’s Thursday, it must be Caribbean cocktail time. And if it’s Caribbean cocktail time, I’ll sidle right up to this tart little number at The Longboard, Cruz Bay’s cool new coastal cantina. Readers, meet my crush:

Paloma cocktail at The Longboard in Cruz Bay, St. John, USVI

That’s a Paloma, the grapefruit-kissed tequila cocktail that may be one of the finest warm weather drinks ever invented. It’s one of a bevy of significantly delicious beverages at The Longboard, which opened in the US Virgin Island’s bustling outpost last spring and is the perfect pre- (or post-) sail hangout, for my money. Did I mention that this Paloma features house-made grapefruit soda and is available on tap? And that the house Dark & Stormy featuring house ginger beer is also on tap?

Another cocktail? I thought you’d never ask:

Oh hey, Mai Tai, want to bareboat charter with me?

Or should we just hang out here all day?

The Longboard opened in the spring, and the look they’ve pulled together feels boutiquey and pretty much perfect for a quick stop or a long linger (take a note: Happy Hour drinks are just $5). The menu has all the right moves, from microgreens sourced from a local organic farmer, to ceviche of the day, to some serious sushi, like this spicy tuna hand roll with sriracha aioli. Check it out:

A frozen Painkiller and tacos (plus a Carib Lager)? Never leaving, ever. Canada, forward my bikini. Keep the fleece. Or just come on down at meet me at The Longboard.
