Fire Heavily Damages Morgan’s Mango

fire morgans mango

We have some very sad news to share this morning. A fire tore through Morgan’s Mango in Cruz Bay overnight. An inspection was taking place around 9:30 a.m. this morning to determine the cause. We spoke briefly with Maria, one of the owners. She was understandably devastated and asked that we all pray for them.

Below is a video shot by Camie Mahkovtz. Camie lives across from the restaurant and was awoken by the smoke.

  1. Do they believe these fires are accidental (i.e. faulty wiring, etc.) or is there suspicion of criminal activity? Whatever the case, it’s good that the FD has been able to contain them. The buildings in Cruz Bay are so close together. You have to think if a fire got out of hand, it could really be a problem. Sad to see another business suffer such a tragedy. Has there been any mention of a way to help out the owners?

  2. This is so sad. Both the tap room and morgans mango made my wedding on island last year so special. I am 3 weeks away from being back to St J and Morgans is always a must stop for dinner. Its just one of those places where the warm air swings in while your having an amazing dinner- its hard to explain but its got a little feel of magic to it… very very sad..I wish them the very best.

  3. so sorry to hear of your loss! Hopefully you’ll be able to rebuild and we’ll see you in 2016 when we return to Island. Thoughts & Prayers Connie & Bill
