Hurricane Dorian Moving Out of the Territory

Well folks, that was unexpected.

The hurricane predictions issued by the National Hurricane Center were off by about 140 miles, according to Dan Boyd’s St. John VI Weather page. Rather than going south of St. John as predicted, the center of the storm came extremely close to St. John. The drastic change caught many on island off guard. As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, the center of the storm was about 45 miles northwest of St. Thomas.

St. John received heavy rains and significant wind during the early afternoon hours. It continues to rain as of 5 p.m. and it remains breezy. The strongest winds are believed to have passed, fortunately. Some tress have fallen, as have large limbs. We’ve chatted with several friends on island, and none have reported major damage.

Large limb falls on Roman Road near the Westin. Large limb falls on Roman Road near the Westin.

The airport will reopen at 7 a.m. Thursday morning. The seaports remain closed. The curfew is in effect until 8 a.m. tomorrow morning.

Thanks, Jen, for the updates. Many prayers answered for St. John in that damage was minimal.

WHEW—–looks like you dodged this one–closer than you liked I’m sure. Stay safe for the rest of the season. Hope we don’t get hit in South Carolina. See you the end of November.
