Curfew Starting at Noon; Details on Flights, Etc. (9:30a.m.)

1130am update: Spirit cancelled its flight for today.

The Governor just announced that there will be a territory-wide curfew beginning at noon today, August 28. The curfew will continue until 6 a.m. Thursday morning.

For those of you vacationing on island, when a curfew is put into place, you must remain in your home/villa/hotel. All of the businesses on St. John will be closed.

As mentioned at 8 a.m., the ports are closed. This means the ferries and barges are not operating.

The Virgin Islands Port Authority stated just before 9:30 a.m. that the airport remains open. American Airlines, Cape Air, Seaborne and Air Sunshine have cancelled all of their flights. As of 9:30 a.m., Delta and JetBlue are set to arrive and depart as scheduled. Here is what the Port Authority wrote pertaining to travelers and the curfew:

“Although a curfew will be implemented at 12 noon, travelers may use their identification cards and their ticket or boarding pass as proof that they are traveling to the airport for their flight. VIPA has communicated with the VI Police Department that the airports are open.”

The following video was taken over Great Cruz Bay at 9 a.m.
