One of the best attributes about the St. John community is its willingness to support worthy causes. Whether it be through a raffle, a dog show or a zany kayak race, St. John shows up, participates and donates. We expect the island’s next charity event to be no different.

The annual CSM Robert Gallagher Memorial Chaotic Kayak race will take place on Sunday, August 11th on Cruz Bay beach. The event is a ton of fun, not only to participate in, but to watch as well. It pits teams from your favorite business around the island against one another as they kayak out and around the Sadie Sea, which is anchored out in Cruz Bay. And because St. John doesn’t do normal, each team has a secret weapon – a child sitting in the middle who’s tasked with shooting the other teams with a water gun.

This year’s event is happening from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in front of Joe’s Rum Hut (which is seeing lots of progress these days!!). If you are planning on attending, please know that it typically has a slow start, so perhaps show up closer to noon. 🙂

Proceeds from the event will be used to bring wounded veterans and their spouses from Team River Runner to St. John in November for a week of relaxation and healing. It’s an amazing cause that News of St. John loves to support.

Want to get in on the action and support your favorite team? For every $100 raised, teams receive a five second head start in the race. You can donate to your favorite team by clicking this link.
