How Salomon Got Its Groove Back

Hello everyone and happy Wednesday! I was finally able to hike the Lind Point Trail yesterday for the first time since last November, and you know what?? It looks pretty amazing!

For those of you who are avid readers of News of St. John – and a big thank you to those of you who are!! – you probably recall a story we posted in mid-November where we shared the unfortunate news that the white sandy beach we loved at Salomon was mostly gone. Instead, it was nearly covered with pieces of rock, coral and even concrete.

Well today we have good news for all of you … a good deal of sand is back! The place truly looks great. But rather than tell you about it, we’re going to let you see for yourselves…

And for those of you who need a bit more of a Salomon fix today, we took this quick video for you:

Looks great, doesn’t it! So how did the sand return so quickly? Well according to one of our friends at the VI National Park, it simply “comes and goes with the swells, tides and surges …Mother nature shifting things around.”

Nature is amazing. There’s no doubt about that. Have a great one everyone.

  1. Yay!! thanks for the pics. Salomon was my favorite beach when we first visited in February of 2017. When we returned in February of 2018 we didn’t go over because we heard how rough it was and heartbreaking. So thank you for sharing the pics because we will be sure to hike Lind Point Trail again and enjoy the beauty of Salomon this February of 2019. I have come to love your blog and follow daily since the storms.

    • Our favorite beach❤️. We didn’t even go when we were there in February, but we will go in February 2019. Thanks for the update

  2. Thank you soooooo much for this update!!! This is my favorite beach on St. John and I have been anxious to hear more about its recovery! It does indeed look beautiful!!! Can’t wait to return and see it in person!

  3. Thanks so much for the pics, Jenn. As with others, we didn’t go there this past April. But we sure will this April!!! Did go to Leinster however, and it was heartbreaking!!! Suspect Leinster will take MANY years to recover. How are Maho and the new palms doing?? Beach updates are VERY appreciated. And please keep us posted about progress at Joe’s and the beach bar. Thanks so much!!!

  4. Salomon is our favorite! Did the beautiful palms in the sand make it? Thank you for the updates. We can’t wait to return in February.

  5. Looks awesome. We always walk there on our first full day (moving on to Honeymoon beach later. Looking forward to returning this February. We saw it last February and it was “a work in progress”

  6. I am curious how Salomon is looking in 2020? Another year of Christmas winds surely helped put more sand back? Can’t wait to see it in person in April.
