The Soggy Dollar Bar is Waiting for You!

Soggy Dollar Wednesday afternoon

Hello everyone and happy Thursday! I had the opportunity to hang out at the Soggy Dollar Bar yesterday for the first time since Irma hit, and it was such a great time! So today I wanted to quickly let you all know that they’re open, and they’re waiting for you all to visit!

Sadly, the only thing that survived the storm was the bar out front. The rest of the building has been rebuilt including the sitting area and the store, which is now much larger. The kitchen is still being worked on, but they are serving lunch with the use of a grill. Lunch is served daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For those of you who’ve admired the police and fire patches that lined the bar, no need to worry … they’ve all been saved! The staff removed each patch prior to Irma and all have been relocated in the new space.

The drinks were cold, the food was great, the staff was lovely and my company was amazing! So what are you waiting for? Hop on a plane and come visit us!

Can’t visit just yet? Well we have the next best thing… Soggy’s webcam is live and streaming. You can check it out at www.soggydollar.com/webcam. You can listen to Soggy Dollar Radio at the same time, so it’s kinda like being there, right??? 🙂

And I just wanted to extend a big thanks to Southern Hospitality for giving us the lift over there yesterday. You may recall how we introduced you to Southern Hospitality’s owner Bruce Twyon back in November. Bruce has donated countless hours and boat trips to help with the recovery efforts. He’s a great guy, one I’m happy to call my friend. Click here to read all about Bruce and his great work.

  1. Well, we are both jealous!!! Have been to the Soggy Dollar in the past but not sure we will visit again. $114 per couple in customs fees to visit BVI is a bit steep when added on to boat charter fees. We are returning to STJ for two weeks in April (trip number 12) and would love to visit, the Dollar but………. Also disappointed in the National Park Service, in there infinite wisdom, not to replant any palm trees!!!! Seems ridiculous to us. The BVI’s are not taking that attitude!!!! We realize that all of the palms are gone from our favorite beaches, Solomon, Gibney, Maho, but the water is still gorgeous and I am sure we will have a great time. Thanks for all of your updates, Jenn!!!

    • I can’t wait to get back to Jost. A special place! Any update on Gertrude’s and One Love? From post Irma pics, both places looked heavily damaged. Are they rebuilding?

  2. So, the Soggy Dollar Bar is waiting? They will wait a long time before I will pay outrageous customs and immigration fees. We could have a nice dinner here in St John for less than the BVI fees and patronize businesses that fund our local economy. In addition, we have to go to Charlotte Amalie to check in to customs here. If BVI restaurants want us to spend money there they should be pressuring their government to charge reasonable fees. BTW, why are you promoting BVI businesses? Aren’t there enough things to talk about here in St John? Doesn’t the header say “News of St John? Keep the money at home where it is appreciated.

    • I have written about our neighbors throughout the years and will continue to do so. It is not their fault that they government increased the fees. Thank you for your comments.

  3. Because we should spread the love, share the love. That is what Love City is all about. That is why we also patronize JVD & the BVI’s. Yes, the customs fees are high. Haven’t been on the other end, but I’m sure visitors from the BVI’s have to pay a customs fee to visit the USVI. In any event, so happy to see that they saved all the police/fire patches!

  4. What is currently the best way to get there? We have chartered many times but that was really a whole bvi tour. Simply want to get a ride there have some drinks sit on the beach and come back.

Is it true or fake news that you have to do customs in Charlotte Amalie?

  5. I love hanging out at the Soggy Dollar Bar,especially with my family. Hopefully returning this fall.We need the Kekoa to be ready to go! Also,I need to see friends @ House of Rajah,US Virgin,Is.

  6. Thank you for the uplifting news. I have a group that goes to Jost every spring. We stay on that special island. We found lodging and will be going again this year. We’ll hug our friends and see that that wonderful place is recovering. Yes, it’s not cheap but once you’ve been there, it grabs you like no other place. Jost never leaves your soul. That’s why so many of us will continue to go to JVD.
Keep up the great work and see you for a Painkiller soon!!
