Today we’d like to tell you about a fun and delicious thing that has recently popped up in Cruz Bay … Irie Pops!
Irie Pops is the latest creation of two of my very good friends here on island – Laura Tawes and William Fernandez. The couple moved to St. John from New York City about two years ago with the sole intention of being small business owners.
“We loved what St. John cultivated- creativity, community, entrepreneurship, and opportunity,” Laura said. “We lived our first year on St. John acclimating ourselves to island life, learning the island’s business industries and studying the needs and expectations of tourists. Having been tourists on St. John ourselves, we realized there was an opportunity for simple, fun, locally made refreshments that were appealing to all ages.
“And so, who doesn’t love a refreshing ice pop on a hot summer day?”
“Irie” (pronounced eye-ree) is a Jamaican term that is used to describe something nice, good or pleasing and is the perfect way to describe enjoying an artisanal ice pop on St. John.
Irie Pops will offer a continuously rotating menu of handcrafted ice pops in both classic and unique flavor combinations using fresh, simple and local ingredients. All of the pops are dairy free, gluten free and free of added sugars. They even have “boozy” pops for the 18 and older crowd.
A few of their boozy flavors include Rum Punch and, of course, Painkiller. For the non-boozy crowd, they offer cucumber coconut lime, mango mojito and strawberry lemonade among other flavors.
Irie Pops will be located in the park right across from the ferry dock in Cruz Bay through the end of Festival. For more information or to check out their whereabouts, visit their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/iriepopsvi
