Local Bars Donating Tips to Help Wounded Vets – Tonight!

Joes Rum Hut

Planning on having a few happy hour cocktails tonight? Perhaps you’re thinking about having some appetizers, lunch or dinner after a long day at the beach or during sunset? If you are, please stop by The Beach Bar all day and night or Joe’s Rum Hut tonight during happy hour because both bars will be donating 100 percent of their tips to Team River Runner.

The veterans will be at both bars during happy hour, so please stop by and buy them a drink. 🙂

Team River Runner is an organization that brings wounded veterans to St. John in November for a week of rest and relaxation – and we couldn’t think of a better place in the world for them to do that! There’s an event this weekend – the Chaotic Kayak race – which is being held to raise money to get the vets here in November. It’s a great cause, one we support 100 percent here at News of St. John.

In addition to donating their happy hour tips, Joe’s Rum Hut is also raffling off a happy hour party, which includes one hour of happiness with an open bar for up to 10 people.

More than $38,000 was raised during last year’s Chaotic Kayak event. Of that, more than $2,000 was raised by all of you and donated to News of St. John’s Chaotic Kayak team.

We’re raising money again this year to help, but are falling way short than our 2014 amount raised. As of this morning, we are at $225. That’s a great number, but we know we could do better. Please, if you are able to, donate to our team. Even $5 help.

Sunday’s kayak race begins at noon at Oppenheimer Beach. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend this very fun event. Food and drinks will be available. We hope to see you there!
