There are a number of lower-cost (and sometimes more convenient) options already in place for getting from SJU to the VI, other than flying the major carriers: Seaborne; CaribAir; hell, the ferry from Fajardo to STT beats the hell out of Gates 1A-C in the AA terminal at SJU. If more “minor” carriers make it easier (and cheaper) to get to the states from SJU, it results in a corresponding increase in travel options to the states from the VI.
It’s something that’s probably a bigger boon to locals than to stateside tourists … but still a good thing.
